Anna Beug is an inner city GP and educator in Dublin, an accredited trainer of CIC and currently acting chair of the Association of Narrative Practice in Healthcare (ANPH). Anna has introduced an arresting new term into the lexicon of general practice: mosaic care. Writing in BJGP Life, she describes the role of GPs in providing long term care for many patients whose problems are complex, multilayered and intractable. She likens the experience to gathering fragments of a mosaic: the picture may never be complete, but sometimes a new piece allows it to be seen in a new way, or creates a link between scenes. John Launer has referred to this new concept in his column in the BMJ, but we strongly recommend you to read Anna’s own full and expressive account of mosaic care here.
